Hodgkin's Disease

Hi! My name is Cindy and I was diagnosed in 1979 at the age of 16 as having Hodgkin's Disease Stage IIA. I have been in remission since 1981. My goal for this site is to help others who are diagnosed or in remission to help out with various links and Survivors pages. It is really important to find out as much as you can regarding treatments, side effects, about the cancer itself, etc. I was treated at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I did have side effects from the treatment and I was very sick but I'm really fortunate that my cancer responded to the treatment. I do want to say that if you are not comfortable with your Doctor, treatment plan, you should get a second opinion. I didn't feel good about my first Doctor's testing and treatment plans, and when I said, "no" to a certain test, my Doctor told me I would be dead in four or five months. I was 16 at the time, only one week before my 17th. birthday and I could not accept my Doctor's attitude. That is when I was contacted by St. Jude's Midest Affiliate in Peoria Illinois. When I talked to their Doctor, I immediately trusted her and decided to be treated at St. Jude's. I'm sure glad I did. I did have severe side effects but I was very lucky that the worst went away after I went off of treatment. I do have long term side effects. One goal I have hope for in the future, is to have answers for side effects in regards to treatments. What, why, where, and how. Where you can ask a Doctor questions and they can give you answers. It is up to us to be our own advocates. Good luck to all of you. Thank you for visiting my web page!
